In the Search for the Best Pencil Sharpener We Found Two that are Worthy of Your Attention1>
Included in our search we were also focused on finding the best pencil sharpener for colored pencils. We Researched a Litany of Popular Models from all the Major Brands.
When it comes to sharpening pencils he best sharpener also has to be the best electric pencil sharpener. The reason for this is that with the electric versions you get a uniform grinding speed which facilitates your ability to focus on the pressure you put on the pencil in the sharpening process. We spent a lot of time researching reviews from purchasers with and eye towards durability and how the sharpener would handle the notoriously fragile colored pencil leads. We were particularly interested in getting a sense on how these sharpeners would handle indelible pencils that we describe in our Treasure Hunt article HERE. These, also, have delicate pencil leads. Since we are dealing with pencil leads tend to be more fragile than your typical No. 2 pencil we weighted our opinion heavily towards sharpeners that would best handle colored pencils. Some of the major issues we encountered in our research included:
- Product failure after a short period of time [Product lifetime in general]
- Inherent [or later developing over time] loud noises during operation
- Grinding up too much pencil legth during the sharpening process
- Jamming when a pencil lead breaks off
- Percent of time a pencil lead beaks off in the sharpening process
- Unsatisfactory sharpening angle
- Capacity of the shavings container
- Issues over the shavings container not staying in place
To be fair, no pencil sharpener was free from issues, however the two we are recommending here we believe are stand outs where these issues are at a minimum. We recommend the AFMAT pencil sharpener for colored pencils and X-Acto SchoolPro electric pencil sharpener.
