The 4 Best Brands You Should Consider when You Purchase Himalayan Pink Salt
Since all pink Himalayan salt comes from the same mine the more important differences between brands is how it's handled and packaged
- When reviewing ratings that users give their products it’s important that there is a large number of reviews to ensure that here is a predictable amount of both positive and negative experiences and opinions to give a realistic assessment of the product’s overall utility. So we excluded all brands that had less than 100 reviews.
- When we look at the distribution of 1 to 5 star ratings we find that in the review of a trusted product that the distribution of the amount of rating negativity tapers on a generally consistent and predictable manner. This means that with a great brand the 5 star ratings would be the vast majority of reviews with 4 star reviews being considerably less common. Then 3 star reviews would be lesser still and ideally the 1 star reviews would usually be the least number of reviews across a trusted product offerings.
- For Himalayan salt we found a disproportionate amount of complaints about stray “sand grins”, “grit” or other insoluble particles. Though mentioned across the 1 through 4 star ratings it was particularly apparent in the 1 star ratings across a litany of brands hat we reviewed. All pink Himalayan salt come from the same Khewra salt mine in Pakistan. So the difference between brands is more related to issues of handling and packaging. We decided to test a little-known fine-grain pink Himalayan salt brand that we had on hand to see what we would find. We threw some into boiling water and we also found some solid particles remaining that would not dissolve exactly as described in many of the “complaints”.
We believe that this particular complaint may be due, in a large part, to a lack of understanding of what it means to have an unrefined “pure” naturally occurring product. Pure in this sense cannot be understood in the same way that we understand purity of table salt [sodium chloride] which has been refined to a lab standard purity of 99.99%. “Pure” in the sense of a naturally occurring product like pink Himalayan salt is better understood to be a product that has not been adulterated.
Let’s Discuss This:
Free from modern pollutants, this salt was formed over eons in an ancient inland seabed that was slowly raised while slowly evaporating by tectonic action in the days that predate the dinosaur era over 300 million years ago. This ancient seabed eventually dried into a vast mineral rich salt deposit. Then, from tectonic action, large pockets of this sea salt were sealed off from the environment as the Himalayan mountains were pushed up out of the sea.
So what you are getting with pink Himalayan salt is literally an unadulterated portion of an ancient seabed from an unpolluted world that existed over 300 million years ago. So one needs to expect some randomness in the contents of this salt. It was created by nature and not in a lab. No doubt some portion of the 80+ beneficial minerals that you get from this salt may actually come from these bits of insoluble granules that are talked about in the 1 star reviews.
In summary, unlike table salt that has been processed, Pink Himalayan salt has been taken, unrefined, directly from an ancient seabed. So expect some varience from batch to batch.
PINK HIMALAYAN SALT
- Coming in various shades of pink it is the cleanest natural sea salt currently available on the market.
- Because it is unrefined and [to a degree] not uniform it retains more than 80 trace minerals your body needs to function.
- It also includes all six electrolytes needed for optimal bodily function [These are: Sodium, calcium, potassium, chloride, phosphate, and magnesium]. The potassium listed here is the needed counterbalance to the sodium. What this means is that this helps your body better regulate it’s fluid levels.
- Himalayan salt has a more full bodied flavor than regular table salt.
TABLE SALT
- All minerals have been refined out leaving the pure “mono-salt” sodium chloride [The scientific name for table salt, NaCl].
- Table salt most likely has anti-caking agents added in such as calcium silicate or sodium aluminosilicate [an aluminum based compound].
