The 4 Best Brands to Consider when You Purchase Canned Organic Beans
Unless we were able to actually try the beans we only reviewed and recommended organic beans that had more than 100 reviews:
- We specifically reviewed organic beans that could be used in our Five Bean Salad HERE. We wanted the best canned organic black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans and black-eyed peas. We found 4 suitable brands that offered organic versions for all but the blackeyed peas.
- All certified organic foods are automatically non-GMO and are grown without any pesticides nor herbacides. We found that all organic brands of organic beans that we reviewed also came in the form of the low sodium version. So we discuss all of this and what to do about adding salt in more detail HERE
- When reviewing ratings that users give their products it’s important that there is a large number of reviews to ensure that here is a predictable amount of both positive and negative experiences and opinions to give a realistic assessment of the product’s overall utility. So, unless we actually have used the product, we excluded all brands that had less than 100 reviews.
- When we look at the distribution of 1 to 5 star ratings we find that in the review of a trusted product that the distribution of the amount of rating negativity tapers on a generally consistent and predictable manner. This means that with a great brand the 5 star ratings would be the vast majority of reviews with 4 star reviews being considerably less common. Then 3 star reviews would be lesser still and, where possible, the 1 star reviews would usually be the least number of reviews across a trusted product offerings.
- Upon examining some bean brands we also rejected those that seemed to have too many issues about “odd” taste.
- We found that across all brands there was a significant amount of complaints about the product arriving in dented cans. Clearly this is a transportation issue .Since steel cans hold up better than aluminum we rejected any beans that we found to be packed in aluminum cans. So expect a reasonable chance you might get in some shipments that have some dented cans. With that said very few of the complaints about dented cans mentioned that the seal had actually been breached. Sure it’s nice to see the cans arrive in perfect condition but it’s more important that you are able to get the product that you want!
